On 9/21/10 I had Roux-en Y Gastric Bypass surgery. My whole life has started to change. Let me summarize the beforehand.

I started my journey to skinny girl back in May of 2010. The seminar was very informative and I couldn't wait to get the appointments started. I went through, the blood work, the sleep apnea test and the AWESOME low/no carb diet. The diet was the hardest part of the whole thing. I love fried food and it was hard to stop eating it. I still crave crinkle cut french fries with nacho cheese. Bad I know! My boyfriend and I would go to the bar every Wednesday and have a few beers and I would eay some fries. Most people are able to lose alot of weight beforehand but I only lost 6 lbs total. They kept threatening me with the fact that they may or may not be able to do the surgery if my liver was too fatty. So I was not excited for my surgery b/c in my mindset it was not going to happen.

Day of surgery I started to get nervous finally. I went early at 6am to prep for the surgery, get the IV put in a wait. I normally do not have problems with IV's but this nurse had no idea what she was doing. She tried twice with no success. Finally an anesthesiologist had to come in and numb my hand and got it in on the first try, mind you I was crying by this point. The IV was very itchy so I could not sit still. I walked around, went the bathroom a few times and then the nurse came in and told me that they were ahead of schedule so my surgery would be on time at 9am. 2 of the surg tech girls came back to get me with warm blankets. I teared up and said goodbye to my mother and was on my way. They brought me to the scary operating room that was very cold(warm blankets) and told me to get on the table.... which by the way was the size of a bench, even a skinny person would be scared of it. I got on and then the hot anestesiologist came in to get me ready. For some reason I have always wanted them to tell me to count backwards... Well he said " I am going to give you something to relax you".. ya that's when I woke up. The first thing I asked was, did they do the surgery? Knowing that it happened made me so happy dispite the pain I felt. I was so high on morphine, it didnt matter what they told me.

I made it to my room. I was the first patient to ever be in that room b/c they just finished the new wing of that floor. My nurses were really nice from what I can remember.. The first day is really blurry and I can't remember too much but I remember hating the first time they made me get up. I kept saying sorry everytime because I was having so much trouble. Apparently my blood sugar was low so I got to have my fingers pricked and received insulin shots the whole time I was there. I am so thankful that I do not have diabetes b/c I am a baby! My boyfriend came to visit me late that night after he finished work and he said I told him to leave :( I don't even remember saying that.

Day 2 was a little bit better. I had a swallow study that morning and it went well so I was allowed to drink water! I didn't have to use the sponges anymore. My co workers came to visit me and brought scratch offs so my niece and did them well into the evening. I eventually was able to walk down the hall with no help and I felt that I was making progress.

Day 3: The Dr must've felt the same way b/c he let me go home. My original plan was to have my mother stay with me at my place but when I got there, it felt way to small. So I asked my sister if i could stay at her and my mom could take care of me there.

So far it has been great! My mother comes up every 4 hours with my medication and helps me with everything. I don't know what I would do with out her! I had my post op appt today and they took the drainage tube out so I can finally take a shower. I sorta took one today and I think I pushed my self too hard and pulled a muscle in my stomach. I hope this pain goes away soon. I will be writing in the this blog daily. I hope it can helps others!
